Every week we get the same question from Asansol shop owners, doctors, restaurants and coaching institutes: "Why is my competitor showing on top of Google Map when I have been in business longer?". This guide is the honest, non-shortcut answer — the exact same playbook we run for our clients.
First, understand how Google ranks local businesses
Google decides local ranking based on three factors, in this order:
- Relevance — how well your business matches what the searcher typed
- Distance — how close you are to the searcher's location
- Prominence — how well-known / trusted your business is online
You cannot change #2 for random searchers. Your entire job is to maximise #1 (relevance signals) and #3 (prominence signals).
Step 1: Claim and completely fill your Google Business Profile
This is the single biggest lever. Most Asansol businesses either don't have one or have a half-filled one.
- Go to business.google.com and claim your business (free)
- Fill every field — services, hours, service areas, categories, attributes
- Upload minimum 15 high-quality photos: exterior, interior, team, products, work-in-progress
- Add 5–10 services under the Services tab with descriptions containing your target keywords
- Post one Google Update per week — offers, new work, festival greetings
- Add products with photos and prices if applicable
Step 2: Collect Google reviews aggressively (but ethically)
Reviews are the #1 correlated ranking factor for Google Map Pack. Not the number, but the rate at which you get them. A business getting 2 new reviews every week beats a business with 100 reviews from 2 years ago.
- Get your review link from Google Business Profile → Share profile → Review form
- Send it via WhatsApp within 1 hour of finishing each customer's work
- Include a short personal message: "Sir, aapka feedback humein aur behter banayega. 30 second lagega."
- Reply to every review — good and bad — within 24 hours. Google notices this.
- Never buy or exchange reviews — Google catches this and de-lists businesses.
Step 3: Get your NAP consistent everywhere
NAP = Name, Address, Phone. It must be identical — same spelling, same abbreviation — across:
- Google Business Profile
- Your website footer
- Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn business pages
- JustDial, Sulekha, IndiaMart, Yellow Pages listings
- Any directory or citation site
Google cross-checks these. If one says "MediaByteX Pvt Ltd" and another says "Media Byte X" and a third says "MBX Solutions", Google gets confused and drops your ranking.
Step 4: On-page SEO for your website
Your website is what Google visits to verify what your Business Profile claims. If your website doesn't mention "Asansol" and your service, Google can't confidently rank you for "[service] in Asansol".
- Home page title: [Primary Service] in Asansol — [Your Brand]
- Every service page should mention Asansol at least 3-4 times naturally
- Add a page-per-neighbourhood if you serve specific areas (Hutton Road, Ushagram, Burnpur Road)
- Embed your Google Map on the Contact page
- Add LocalBusiness schema (JSON-LD) — a developer can do this in 30 minutes
- Get your website to load in under 3 seconds on mobile
If this sounds like work, it is — see our website designing service which ships all of the above by default.
Step 5: Build local citations and backlinks
These are mentions of your business on other Indian websites. Free to build, hugely powerful.
- List on: JustDial, Sulekha, IndiaMart, TradeIndia, Yelp India, Yellow Pages
- List on category-specific sites: Practo (doctors), Zomato (restaurants), Housing (real estate), UrbanClap (services)
- Reach out to 5 Asansol news / blog sites and pitch a guest article
- Sponsor a local event — most give you a backlink
Step 6: Publish content that answers real Asansol queries
Every month, publish 1–2 blog posts answering questions your customers actually ask. Use the exact phrases they type. Some examples for different niches:
- Doctor: "Best dermatologist in Asansol for hair fall"
- Coaching: "NEET coaching fees in Asansol 2026"
- Real estate: "2 BHK flat price in Ushagram Asansol"
- Web agency: "Website design cost in Asansol" (that's what we did with this article)
Realistic timeline: how long to rank?
If you execute all six steps consistently, expect:
- Google Map Pack (top 3 map results): 45–90 days for medium-competition niches in Asansol
- First page for city + service keyword: 3–6 months
- Steady inbound leads from Google: 4–8 months
Anyone promising "top 1 in 15 days" is either lying or using tactics that will penalise your site later.
